Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien's Journey: Inspiring Women to Dream Big

Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien, born in 1999, is a Vietnamese female chess player with the title of Woman International Master (WIM), having reached the peak of Elo FIDE 2124 and has achieved many impressive achievements in domestic and international tournaments. The journey to pursue her passion for chess has never been easy, but she has proven that all challenges can be overcome with talent, perseverance, and determination. Thuy Tien is not only persistent on the path to conquering her big dream but also a dedicated coach, inspiring and training generations of promising young players and contributing to nurturing and developing future chess talents.

From the First Steps to Young Talents 

Thuy Tien soon revealed her special talent from the first days of contact with chess. In 2007, when she was only 8 years old, she won all six gold medals at the Southeast Asian Age Group Chess Championship, marking the first turning point in her professional chess career.

From the Global Stage to Conquering Big Dreams

Thuy Tien's journey to conquer the title of Woman International Master (WIM) is the result of nearly two decades of dedication to professional chess. Starting to compete at the age of 6, she quickly demonstrated her outstanding talent, gradually reaching the international arena. Competing in 15 countries, she has won more than 200 medals, including special achievements such as the G18 Asian Individual Gold Medal, 7 times the National Youth Standard Chess Championship, and the 2022 National Sports Festival Gold Medal. Thuy Tien has not only stopped at domestic tournaments but has also affirmed her mettle in many world-class tournaments. With perseverance, effort, and passion, she conquered the WIM title, becoming one of the best female chess players in Vietnam. 

In the following years, Thuy Tien continuously asserted herself through international tournaments, gradually advancing her career. At the end of 2016, she received a scholarship and went to the US, a new environment with cultural and language challenges, but also opened up opportunities to develop and conquer her big dream. Here, she not only continued to compete but also spent a lot of time researching, learning, and expanding her vision of world chess.

From Chess Master to a Guiding Light for the Next Generation

Thuy Tien's journey does not stop at the chessboard; after many years of competing, she realized that success lies not only in individual titles but also in passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation. She has become a chess coach, training many young talents and helping them conquer new heights. With the belief that a good chess player not only plays chess well but also knows how to share and guide, she has built a systematic teaching program, helping her students develop from tactical thinking to competitive psychology.

She has helped many students win hundreds of medals and more than 20 championship cups at large and small tournaments during the training process. These numbers not only demonstrate her pedagogical talent but also demonstrate the strong development of future generations of chess players. As a coach, Thuy Tien not only imparts chess skills but also inspires and motivates young players. With the advantage of being a female coach, she often replaces parents to escort young children to compete in international and domestic tournaments, taking care of everything from expertise competition psychology to meals and sleep, ensuring that the children have the best conditions to develop their talents and assert themselves. Her dedication has contributed to improving the quality of Vietnamese youth chess while affirming the important role of women in this field.
